Weekly Lesson #4 // Preschool

The Fall of Jericho

This week, preschool age kids are learning about Joshua and the Israelites entering the promised land. After crossing the Jordan River, God’s people came upon a choice of whether or not to trust God. Your child will learn that even the biggest problems crumble when we put our faith in God.

Basic Truth:

Jesus wants to be my friend.

Memory Verse:  Psalm 31:14

“I trust in you, LORD; I say, “You are my God.”

Practice this verse with your child. This will help your child to remember the verse. Also, it will help to reinforce what he or she learned and apply it to their lives.

Topics: Believing, Faith, Following God, Joshua, Listening, Obedience, Power of God

Fun Activity:

Gather an assortment of large blocks. Build a wall with your child. Also, offer crackers for a snack. (Talk about how faith can make a wall crumble like a cracker.)

Lesson Introduction:

Joshua and the Israelites had just crossed the Jordan River and entered the land God had promised to give them. Shortly after crossing the Jordan River, God’s people came upon the city of Jericho. A big wall surrounded the city. Should the people believe God and have faith that He was going give them the land He promised, or should they turn around and go back into the desert?

Bible Story: Read the story of “The Fall of Jericho.”

Joshua 6:1-16

*Parents: Ask Who, What, When, Where,Why questions.

Count Your Blessings

This week we will learn to recognize and give thanks for the many blessings we have in Christ Jesus. Blessings are all around when we are obedient to God’s Word, but we should not take them for granted. “Blessings crown the head of the righteous.” Proverbs 10:6

Basic Truth:

Recognize and give thanks for the many blessings we have in Christ Jesus.

Memory Verse: Deuteronomy 28:2

“All these blessings will come upon you, and overtake you, because you obey the Lord your God.”

Topics: Fruitfulness, Blessings, Thankfulness

Sing A Song:   Trust In You by Lauren Daigle

Lesson Introduction: Ask how, what and why questions.

“Count Your Blessings” is a phrase we hear quite often. But what exactly are these blessings we should be counting? Why should we count them? There are three things we must know before we can count blessings.

  1. The first is how do you get them?
  2. The second is what are they?
  3. And the third is why do we have so many?

In our scripture passage we should be able to answer all three questions.

Bible Story: Read Deuteronomy 28:1-13

Blessings from Obedience

Have the kids follow along in their Bibles as you read this passage. Next, tell the kids to go back through the verses and count the number of times they see the word blessing, blessed, or bless.

Discussion Questions:

  1. The first verse of the passage tells us what we must do to be blessed by God, what is it? (Obey the Lord your God and follow His commands.)
  1. According to verses 3 and 6, where will we be blessed? (City, country, in or out – everywhere.)
  1. What does it mean in verse 4, that God will open the Heavens, the storehouse of His bounty? (Heaven is full of blessings and God wants to give them to us.)

Blessings are all around us, but we should not just take them for granted. God gives us blessings like:

  1. Friends
  2. The food we have to eat.
  3. A place to worship God.
