LESSON: GIFTS FROM GOD//GOD GIVES US THE BIBLE//PRESCHOOL

MEMORY VERSE: (3 minutes)

“Guide me in Your truth and teach me.” Psalm 25:5

This lesson will help us understand that the Bible is a precious gift from God. The Bible teaches us how to live a life that will please God. God knows that we need a map or guide on how to live godly lives. Without a guide we would be wandering around lost, but God loves us way too much to let that happen, so He gave us the Bible. The Bible teaches us the truth about God and how we should live our lives.

Parent/Child Activity: *See attached directions for your child.

Complete the all Around Town Activity page with your child. Explain that maps are a very useful tool and guide. They help us understand how to get from place to place.

INTRODUCTION: (2 minutes)

God gave us an amazing gift when He gave us the Bible. Another name for the Bible is the Holy Scriptures. The Bible is God’s message to us and its truths teach us the way in which we should live. God teaches us right from wrong by using real examples in the Bible. For example, in the Bible bad guys are punished by God, and good guys who chose to follow God’s commandment are rewarded. The Bible explains how we became separated from God because of sin and God’s plan to save us from our sins so that we can live with Him forever.

Today, we will be reading what the apostle Paul wrote to his young friend Timothy in a letter. He wants to let Timothy know how important it is to learn what it says in the Holy Scriptures. (Bible)

READ: 2Timothy 3:15-17

DISCUSSION QUESTIONS:

  1. What is another name for the Bible? (The Holy Scriptures.)
  2. From what age did Timothy begin to learn about the scriptures?(He was a baby.)
  3. Where does the Bible come from? (It is God-Breathed or created by God.)
  4. Is the Bible also God’s Word? (Yes)
  5. Why is the Bible so important? (It makes us wise for salvation through Christ Jesus)

APPLICATION:

We learned about another special gift from God – the Bible. He gave us the Bible as a map or guide to show us the way to live, and the difference between good and evil. We should follow God’s Word because He knows what is best for us.

PRAYER: Lord, thank You for Your guide, the Bible. Thank you for Your Word that we can read anytime we want to. Help us to read the Bible every day and learn more about Your love and how we can be saved. Amen.

INTRODUCTION:

Last week we learned that we can talk to God through prayer, and Jesus even gave us an example on how to pray. Today we will talk about the importance of honoring God through prayer and look at a Psalm written by King David as an example of showing respect to God when we pray.

READ: Luke 11:1-2, Psalm 5:1-7 (Prayer shows respect to God.)

DISCUSSION QUESTIONS:

  1. How does Jesus describe God in His prayer? (Hallowed, or holy.)
  2. Why is this name respectful? (Because it identifies God’s sinless nature.)
  3. Why does David pray? (Because he is sad and needs God’s help.)
  4. How does David show respect to God? (By describing His reliability, holiness, and power.)
  5. What does David expect God will do with his prayer requests? (Answer them!)
  6. Why does David trust that God will answer his prayer? (Because David is praying in humility and with respect.)
  7. How is it even possible for us to speak with God through prayer? (Because of His great love!)

APPLICATION:

The most important thing to remember about prayer is that God should be honored (respected) when we communicate with Him. Giving God the honor He deserves means we can expect Him to answer our prayers! Respecting and honoring God means we praise Him wit the humblest hearts possible. He is God, and He deserves honor more than anyone else!

PRAYER:

Thank You, God, for teaching us to pray! Remind us to honor and praise You when we pray. Thank You for Jesus’ example and for HIs sacrifice. Amen.
