WE MAY BE SEPARATED BY DISTANCE, BUT UNITED BY THE HOLY SPIRIT
Is The Church Being Tested?
It is always amazing to me how God’s Word seems to align with our current circumstances. We teach verse by verse through the Bible. We don’t plan where we will be in scripture. We don’t have clever series titles or seasonal sermons. We begin in Genesis and go straight through to Revelation… and yet, where God has us in His Word seems to speak directly to our circumstances.
We are in the book of Exodus and just finished the plagues and how God completely destroys the Egyptian army and delivers Israel through the Red Sea. It is after this great deliverance that God gives them a test… He says “IF” and the word “IF” is a multiple choice question. It suggests two choices with two different answers. He says… IF you listen carefully to the LORD your God and do what is right in His eyes, IF you pay attention to His commands and keep all His decrees… and here’s the ANSWER to a YES response… I will not bring on you any of the diseases I brought on the Egyptians, for I AM the LORD, who heals you.” What is the test that Israel is given? Some would say it’s a test of obedience. I would say it’s a test of faith. God is giving Israel the opportunity to act on what they believe. A belief is only an idea, only a thought, only a philosophy until it’s acted on. When you act on what you believe it becomes faith. James said you show my your faith without deeds, and I will show you my faith by my deeds (James 2:18). You can’t say you believe and not act. Believing always leads to obedient action.
I believe the church of San Clemente is being tested. Do we want to be a church? Do we want to be a community of faith? Or do we just want to do whatever we want to do, living our lives as silos, islands without any concern or care for fellowship or even a place to worship. Many churches are being faced with this challenge. Will we make it through this season?
First… a word of hope… even though we are separated by social distancing, we are united by One Holy Spirit who lives in each and every one of us. God is not far from us and we are forever connected together in Jesus. The love of God that unites us is greater than any plague. The Spirit of God who called us to be together is not bound by physical separation. Every day you have been on my heart. Why? Because we are one in the Spirit and the Spirit reminds me daily to pray for you.
Second… a word of prophecy…I am confident that Calvary Chapel San Clemente will not only survive, but thrive through this storm because the LORD promised. And I believe many will pass this test and realize they do want to be a thriving community of faith in San Clemente called Calvary Chapel. I believe this will stir up within us an urgency to realized the time is short, the day of reckoning is at hand and we want to do everything in our power to reach the lost, the lonely and the forgotten. I believe this is the beginning of a great spiritual awakening that will shake the foundations of California and move across the nation.
Be encouraged… you are loved by Jesus and you are loved by Roxie and myself. We and the ministry leaders of Calvary Chapel are praying for you!
HOW ARE WE RESPONDING TO THIS?
We are planning! We are getting ready for the celebration service… the first service that we will get together as a community of faith. We’re going to have our world class taco bar and an entire service dedicated to worship and the Word!
During this time we want to be a source of encouragement to you…. we’ve put together several opportunities to gather together online until we can gather in person. Join us each day at 12 noon for prayer on our Facebook Live Page. Also, join us this Sunday at 10 am for worship and the word.
If you need prayer… we are here for you. Please call us at (949) 228-9117 or email us at firstname.lastname@example.org.
WE ARE MOVING FORWARD TOGETHER
REMEMBER YOUR GENEROSITY IS REWARDED
Paul said... you will be enriched in every way so that you can be generous on every occasion, and through us your generosity will result in thanksgiving to God. (2 Corinthians 9:11). Jesus said... give and it will be given to you. A good measure, pressed down, shaken together and running over, will be poured into your lap. For with the measure you use, it will be measured to you. (Luke 6:38). Your generosity is not only an encouragement to us, but it inspires thanksgiving to God in those who are ministered to at Calvary Chapel.
This is one of the ways we stay together... even during social distancing. With the Church Center App you can GIVE, REGISTER FOR EVENTS, JOIN A GROUP and PRE-CHECK your kids into Family Ministry. You can even watch services ONLINE.
