The Road To Easter Day 8

HE IS RISEN!

28 Now after the Sabbath, as the first day of the week began to dawn, Mary Magdalene and the other Mary came to see the tomb. ²And behold, there was a great earthquake; for an angel of the Lord descended from heaven, and came and rolled back the stone from the door, and sat on it. ³His countenance was like lightning, and his clothing as white as snow. ⁴And the guards shook for fear of him, and became like dead men.

⁵But the angel answered and said to the women, “Do not be afraid, for I know that you seek Jesus who was crucified. ⁶He is not here; for He is risen, as He said. Come, see the place where the Lord lay. ⁷And go quickly and tell His disciples that He is risen from the dead, and indeed He is going before you into Galilee; there you will see Him. Behold, I have told you.”

Yes, Christ has risen! Just as He said, and just as it has been prophesied. People have seen Him on many occasions, at one time over five hundred individuals have seen Him after He rose. His body was even touched on two occasions.

But what does that mean for me today?

The resurrection is central to the Gospel. Not alone His death on the cross but more importantly is that He had been raised and is alive. Without the resurrection the message is pointless. He has defeated death, so we can go to heaven and have eternal life. And what a great reassurance and comfort it is that we will be with our loved ones who passed away again. Not only that, but I literally see my old life before I gave my life to Christ as dead. Now sin has no more grip on me. There is no meaning, hope and true life away from Him.

Are you walking with restrained eyes like the two men on their way to Emmaus who didn’t recognize Jesus as He walked and talked to them? Are you down cast waiting for something great to come? There is no need, through His death and His resurrection you have everything you need to overcome everything and have a joyful and meaningful life. For Jesus is more than just a suffering Savior, He is alive and walks with you.

Lord, I thank you for all that you have done for us. That you went to the cross for our sins, so we can be forgiven and have a relationship with you. Open our eyes to see you clearly for who you are as you did to these two men on the road to Emmaus at the end.
